讀了紐時的「It’s just a credit to my teammates, how they kept the game close for me」,ESPN的專家艾伯特(Henry Abbott)久久不能回神過來,他驚訝一個NBA的2年級生竟能說出「for me」這樣的話。

Time Magazine Picks Jeremy Lin For Cover After Five Games

Time Magazine Picks Jeremy Lin For Cover After Five Games

Time Magazine hit newsstands this week with theU.S. cover featuring Kim Jong Un, the young newly crowned leader of North Korea, who Time dubs Lil’ Kim. The same cover appeared in Europe and the South Pacific. But in Asia, the phenomenon known as Linsanity took the cover with Kim Jong Un relegated to the inside of the mag. Yes, Jeremy Lin after starting a grand total of five games for the New York Knicks made the cover of Time.
Lin, of course, made the cover of Sports Illustrated this week. He made the non-swimsuit edition at least with the swimsuit issue featuring a curvier Kate Upton. SI makes sense, but Time? Is Linsanity really that big?

Kobe Bryant has never been on the cover of Time. Same goes for Derek JeterPeyton Manning and just about every other active athlete in professional sports today. LeBron James made the cover as part of Time’s preview of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. The Olympics are one of the only times that Time puts a sports subject on the cover with Bode Miller, Michael Johnson (twice) and Carl Lewis making the cut.
There are a couple of other instances athletes on the cover in recent years. Soccer got the nod as a previewto the 2010 World Cup. A celebrating Jason Varitek and Keith Foulke were chosen after the Boston Red Sox won the title in 2004. The Williams sisters made a 2001 cover for their incredible story and rise to the top of tennis. Football, the most popular sport in the U.S., has been the cover subject just once the past 25 years in a 2010 feature on the dangers of the game with an image of a deflated ball.
It wasn’t always that way. Time used to feature sports a lot on the front during its nearly 90-year history. A Super Bowl preview appeared on the cover three times during the 1970s. There were 10 baseball covers during the 1950s. Golfer Bobby Jones appeared on two covers in 1925 and 1930 (Tiger Woods made it in 2000). The athlete on the cover the most times is O.J. Simpson with six appearances. Of course, none of those were during his record-breaking playing days with the Buffalo Bills.
Congratulations Jeremy. You have now made the cover of Time the same number of times as Michael Jordan. Linsanity reigns on.
